A little humor always helps!

Can a first cousin once removed be returned?

One thing I have learned during the quest to find my ancestors is that you have to have a sense of humor!  Along the way, the trail to hunt down your dear ancestors can get a bit curvy and twisty.  If that’s not enough, just wait until you encounter all  of the speed bumps and direction signs that often lead no further than to dark holes and brick walls.  Trust me, it is like navigating with a pirate map loaded with gunshot holes.  It is a journey that is uncharted in many ways, although sometimes you are lucky enough to find a solid trail that leads you to the treasure, to the motherload!  But more often than not, it is endless hours that lead to nothing more than possibilities, or connections that do not clearly point to your family history.  So what do you do?  Well, you have to be able to step back, regroup, and carry on later. Tomorrow, next week, next month.  However long you need absorb the data you have found and put it in perspective.  You also have to learn to laugh rather than cry, because sometimes it seems impossible and overwhelming….and other times the hunt and adventure is just downright crazy and funny!

So get ready, get organized, and lets go!  Let’s see who is waiting to be found! Will today be the day that you find royalty or criminals, pirates or captains, or a cousin that you would rather not know existed?  What will you learn as you embark upon your journey?  Whatever you do find, try not to overlook the fact that our ancestors were unique in their own special way.  They are a part of who we are, and if that’s not funny, then I don’t know what is!
